To share your VCON stories, your Sci-Fi and Fantasy content, and maybe give us a hand!
Send us your content!
Do you write fan fiction or Sci-Fi/Fantasy related articles or reviews? Maybe you make videos or create other forms of art. Have some cosplay you are proud of? That’s great! VCON is looking for fan-created content, if you have something to share, let us know!
Looking for Volunteers!
VCON is a volunteer-run convention and we are looking for volunteers to help in almost every area. As this year’s VCON will be primarily an online event, we are looking for people with electronic skills. If you are interested in helping, don’t hesitate to reach out!
Tell us your VCON Story!
VCON 2021 is about Looking Forward, Looking Back. Do you have a story about the fun times you’ve had at VCON? Let us hear about it! We’d really love to hear from individuals who met at VCON or even family who met and have and now they have kids that attend too!
We are sorry to have to announce that our backup backup plan has come into play for VCON 2021. With the increasing issues arising from rising Covid counts, uncertainty around the new Covid requirements, rising social unrest, and a hotel situation that is not improving, we have made the difficult decision to hold VCON 2021 as a virtual event only from October 14-17.
Our guests will still be in attendance, and we look forward to bring many more guests now that we have clarity. We will have our Dealer’s room, Art Show, a plethora of panels (I know, that means a lot to most of you!), and even online hospitality and lounges. We are looking forward to allowing many more people to be involved and add their contribution to the event we all have come to love. For those people that have tickets for the live event, we will contact you shortly.
We are mostly under construction for now, but drop us a line and we will be sure you are notified when sections of the site are opening up.
Here’s to seeing you in VCON Online!
Short Answer: Yes!
Are we or aren’t we running a live convention in October? I answer yes, because we are making every plan to have as many attendees as we are permitted at the time. We are also planning for the potential that we will still be locked down, or otherwise unable to host the event as we would like to see it. We are building a fully online event to run in parallel with the live event and feature all the guests and content that you would expect of a live event. Our Prime Minister has said that he expects to have half of Canadians vaccinated by the end of the summer. Dr Henry has said that we should expect to see vaccines at the end of 2021. We’re right in the middle of that grey area, so we have to plan for both options. The online event is something that was already planned, and it will become a permanent part of VCON from here on as it only benefits our attendees and VCON.
Will all the regular stuff be there? YES! we think… it is planned for all the normal things that VCON usually has will be there, Art Show, Dealer’s room, Panels, Workshops, Room Parties, Hospitality etc. We have the opportunity if ticket sales and conditions justify it, to spread out across THREE hotels! We are also looking at working with the Burnaby Public Library, Metropolis, Crystal Mall, Indigo etc leading up to the convention. We will also be featuring more technical panels on how to present your SF/Fantasy idea in forms other than written, like comics and graphics novels, or computer games, digital art, board games…. or MOVIES! Vancouver is one of the largest production centres in the world, and best known for our SF movie capability. Let’s talk to these people and get more ideas out there!
Vcon is a science fiction and fantasy convention that started in 1971 out at UBC. It was created by a bunch of students and run as a fan-run event. The first Author Guest of Honour was Ursula K Leguin, who was attending her first convention as Guest of Honour!
But what is it about?
Vcon is simply a convention of fans of Science Fiction and Fantasy material that like to hang out together and enjoy common things! its friends hanging out with friends (some they haven’t met yet!) having fun…
